Yahoo Optimisation SEO Tips

When we think of SEO and website marketing we tend to put the priority on Google search results, quite naturally because Google holds a massive share of the search engine market. Microsoft is pushing Bing and although it has just 10% share, a lot less than Yahoo but it is likely Bing and Yahoo could be battling each other whilst on their journey to take more of the search engine market share.

Yahoo has a different set of search engine algorithms than Google, not entirely different but enough to see a difference in results on both Yahoo and Google.

Keywords & Title Tags
Yahoo probably pays a little more credence to using primary keywords in the title tags than Google but it is still important to both.

URLs.
Use search engine friendly URLs, ensure they contain your main keywords. Generally speaking most CMS automatically create a static URL but double check to make sure. If you are not using a Content Management System then rename your HTM files with keywords.

Anchor texts for Internal links.
Ensure you use proper anchor texts within your internal links and they contain your target keywords.

Organising links.
Google may not pay as much attention to Yahoo in relation to the website's internal architecture. Whilst external links still count, the main emphasis could well be on your internal linking structure and how it is organised. It is worth developing a tidy site map with hierarchical structure to enable Yahoo to crawl and index all web pages

Content.
The old saying 'Content is King' is very much alive and well in Yahoo World and it places a great deal of emphasis on subject relevancy.

Keyword weight and density may be very important but it is too easy to fall could of Yahoo by stuffing keywords in website content.

These findings are based on the current algorithm of Bing based on research by Peter Yexley. The worldwide web never remains static and such algorithms change frequently so always check that any SEO changes are to current requirements.
