Link
Building and Internet Marketing
Any Google expert will confirm that without doubt
link popularity is the main factor search engines
such as Google use to rank websites. Link building
an important part of any effective SEO search engine
optimisation strategy.
What is link building? An ideal link building srtategy
is about establishing your competitive position online
and in an established marketplace relating to your
industry sector. This might sound complicated but hang
in there.
Link building is an external part of search engine
optimisation and will help boost your Google PageRank.
Don't get confused with swapping links with as many
other websites as possible (also known as reciprocal
link building or link exchanges.
Anyone who has invested days and weeks of hard work
and frustration in a link building campaign, would
naturally expect to be rewarded with some impressive
links. Sadly, far too many face disappointment with
the low quality and quantity of links as well as the
pathetic trickle of traffic for their efforts. Does
this sound familiar?
If so, it is time to re-assess your link building
strategy. Where would you begin to place your website
links? The answer is fairly obvious when you act as
a customer searching for your product or service.
You would:
Conduct a search on Google,
Sscan portals and directories,
Rread articles
Read product reviews,
Join forums and discussion groups.
These are the websites that you need to be seen on.
Do not get involved in the 'numbers game' mentality,
a solid link building strategy is not about targeting
a high number of websites with a minimum PageRank
of 5. It is far more important to build links in important
information websites that your prospective customers
might use.
Beware of Link Farms - these are connected with Black
Hat internet marketing and your association will
cost you dearly.
The biggest fault with link farms is that your link
will appear almost anywhere and bear no connection
with your industry.
If a site has been black listed by a major search
engine such as Google, your own website could be tarred
with the same brush.
They build your links too much, too quicjkly.
Nice steady relevent link building will pay dividends,
not short cuts and link farms.
